Painting

Let me start out by saying that I don't mind painting. It really does wonders for a room and can give a house a new life.

Let me start out by saying that I do mind painting when I have already painted for 7 days straight this year! When ex and I first got our condo, I pretty much camped out there and painted the entire house in 7 days.... that said, my desire to pick up a paint brush right now is pretty low!

I had every intent to show you the colours that I bought last night, but the CIL website is down... boooo! And I forgot my camera (2 days in a row) at the house, so I have nothing to show.... double booooo!

Luckily my mom and my sister decided to volunteer to paint all three upstairs bedrooms today (love you guys, but you're crazy!), so by the time I get there tonight (after work), it should be close to done!

What's left to paint then? Too much!
  • all the trim around all the windows and doors (they are grey right now... very prison like)
  • all the old baseboards upstairs (they are also grey right now... which adds to the prison feeling)
  • all the new baseboards (they only come primed. They will be installed next week)
  • all the new chair rails (which will also be installed next week)
  • the hallways and stairwell (which I am waiting to paint until all the furniture is brought through, just in case we have some major damage trying to maneuver through there)
  • the living room and kitchen (once the chair rail and new baseboards are installed)
  • the ugly wood trim on the European kitchen cupboards (right now I have them primed and curing, they will all be painted white)

Euro cupboard side story.... My dad is a wood guy. Loves wood. If it is natural wood, you shouldn't paint it... So younger sister and I are there Monday night taking the kitchen cabinet doors off to sand the wood trim and get them primed. Halfway through my dad gets there and the first thing he says is, "You are painting the nice oak trim?" Ummmm yes! Have you seen these doors! Yuck! The look on his face was like I had just painted an entire forest white.... lol, anyways...

Long story short, I still have a lot of painting to do!

Moving in 5...

...and I have pretty much done nothing! Alright that is not true, but it feels like I still have so much stuff to do, likely because I haven't started packing. Yes that is right, I like to save it for the very last minute, I like to feel the panic and the stress... it makes me more efficient.

I am likely also dragging my feet on this because this will be my 3rd time moving this year... yes that is correct 3rd time! The first time was in February into the condo (with ex), and then out of ex's condo into my apartment in September, and now.

Things that I need to get done this by Sunday:
  • Meet with Laywer to finalize and give the down payment/closing costs
  • Confirm that I will infact have hydro... I sent in my application on Monday... have not heard back
  • Final walk-through
  • Finalize my paint colours so that I can start painting on Monday or Tuesday night
  • Change address on everything! Blech! I don't even know where to start on this one... driver's licence I guess...
  • Buy a fridge, stove, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer (I will be boxing day hunting for these babies, hopefully I can get a pretty sweet deal!)
  • Pack up everything (you know I guess that should be at the top of my list... hmmm!? priorities much!?)

I have already:

  • Got the certified cheque from the bank
  • Hooked up Gas
  • Hooked up Rogers (cus lord knows I cannot be without the internet!)
  • Signed papers upon papers at the mortgage brokers office
  • Bought painting supplies
  • Booked U-Haul for the 28th and bribed my sisters to help me move... again! (let me tell you they are not impressed)
  • Got out of my apartment lease... which I still had 10 months on btw! (my landlady loves me!)
  • Scouted the sink/vanity that I need to replace the one in the powder room... (so says the house inspector)

I don't know if this is all... I think that I am missing alot...

Ahhh, head spinning... chest getting tight... I need a drink!

Making Christmas Granola

I just finished my last batch of Christmas Granola... phew! And I am one week ahead!

Making Christmas Granola

I roughly based mine on this delicious recipe from Christine's Corner. The obvious difference are that mine does not use big flaked coconut (rather shredded coconut) or dried fruits, and I substitute the pumpkin seeds for sunflower seeds.

No matter, it still came out tasting delicious and made my apartment smell of nicely toasted coconut... made me long to be someplace warm.

Love the labels?

Well you are in luck! I'm sharing them so you can download them and print them yourselves!

Christmas Granola GiftsIf you use them I would love to see some photos, so just send them on my way!

Enjoy!

The Day...

September 27th 2009, he decided he wanted out. That he couldn't muster up the strength and effort to stay and make it work. He never loved me.

I was stunned. It seemed so out of the blue, but as I look back on it now, 3 months later, I can see the signs.

Together for almost 5 years....

4 years, 6 months, 21 days
238 weeks
1666 days
2,399,040 minutes

Family and friends all couldn't believe their ears when I broke the news. After all we just moved into our first house 8 month prior. I was happy. We were happy, or so I thought.

I thought that our happy day would come. I was just waiting for a proposal. I knew it had to be coming soon. He told me that it had never crossed his mind. He didn't want to marry me.

I look back now and feel so stupid for rummaging through his sock draw looking for a box that I thought would be there, but really, it never crossed his mind.

He is still my best friend. In the end we will likely make better best friends than a couple.

It's hard.

I moved out within the week. I couldn't stand to be in "our" house by myself, to this day I don't know how he can stay. I guess men don't form emotional attachments with items...

The past three months have been hell, but I am getting through. It's hard to say don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Fast forward, I just bought my own house and the closing date is in 1 week.

It represent both an end and a beginning; a new beginning. A chance to start over for 2010.

...more to come...

I believe...

"I believe in pink.
I believe that laughter is the best calorie burner.
I believe in kissing, kissing a lot.
I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong.
I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.
I believe that tomorrow is another day.
And I believe in miracles."
~ Audrey Hepburn

I will return from my blogging hiatus shortly. I have an exciting new life planned for 2010. I'm still healing, and everyday that goes by I get slightly better, stronger. Stay tuned, there will be more, I promise.

Oh How I Dreamt About You All Day....

Homemade Loaded Veggie Soup!

Yup, I was totally craving this soup all day, no joke.

Ingredients
5 cups water
2 veggie/herb bouillon cubes
1/4 cup baby carrots, chopped
1/2 small red pepper, chopped
1/2 small green pepper, chopped
1/2 small red onion, sliced
1/2 lb sliced fresh crimini mushrooms
1 cup frozen spinach
1 cup egg noodles

Method
1. Heat water until boiling, dissolve bouillon cubes.
2. Turn heat to medium. Add carrots, peppers, and onion. Simmer 3-4 minutes.
3. While soup is simmering, saute 1/2 pound mushrooms until tender. To cook without oil, use a non-stick pan and and 2-3 tbsp of broth from soup.
4. Add mushrooms to soup with frozen spinach. Stir until spinach starts to break up.
5. Add egg noodles, and simmer until egg noodles are soft.
6. Add pepper to taste. Serve hot!

I had it with a tuna sandwich, and it was delicious! Everything I dreamed and more!

Have you ever craved something all day? What was it?

I am surprised for me that this time it was soup... usually it's sweets or ice cream, yum!

A Yummy Green Monster

As I headed out the front door of my office building, I made a quick decision that it was too nice outside to go to the gym, so I hit up my favourite trail for a little run.

I only planned on running 8 km (4.9 miles), but I was just so in the groove with the music, and the sunshine that I kept going and ran close to 11 km (6.8 miles)! It took me about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

By the time I got home I was starving so before I jumped into the shower I whipped up a yummy green monster.

I'm sure you are wondering "what the heck is a green monster??"... well, simply put, it is whatever you want it to be! The version I had today was made up of ingredients that I had on hand, but you can pretty much use any fruit, vegetable, milk, or juice...

Britt's Calcium Green Monster
2 heaping cups of fresh spinach leaves
1 single-serving raspberry yogurt (President's Choice 100 calorie brand)
1/2 cup white 1% milk
1 banana
4 strawberries

Throw everything into a blender and blend. Viola! It's soooo simple, you can use whatever you have in the fridge. I do suggest adding the banana, it helps to cover the spinach taste.

As much as I wish I could take credit for this yummy and very nutritious drink, I can't! I believe the first time I saw this was on Angela's blog Oh She Glows. She even developed and entire website dedicated to the green monster movement, it features several delicious recipes and even her story behind the drink!

I think they are a great drink after a long run or tough work-out. They are packed with veggies and antioxidants. Do you have something that you enjoy after a workout?

Long Weekend Round-Up

I'm sooo happy that this weekend was a long weekend, I really needed some time off to relax.

We didn't do to much this weekend. A few outings, a family get together, and some good old fashion cleaning.

Friday night Nick and I headed to see The Final Destination. It was alright, everything you would expect from a 3-D Horror movie. Screaming, blood, more blood, and oh yes, blood in 3-D!

Saturday night I hosted a chat over at PDP! We had a great turnout, and gave away lots of goodies. I then headed over to Amanda's for yet another movie. This time we went to go see All About Steve. It was a cute movie. It definitely got Sandra Bullock out of her usual role of "beautiful professional," and made her clumsy, clueless, and a borderline stalker.

Sunday was spent grocery shopping and cleaning. For dinner, Amanda, Jax and I headed to my Dad's house for a BBQ. Here's the little guy playing in the backyard...

And now I believe that brings us to today!

Today I am doing absolutely nothing, and it feels great!

Well that is not 100% true. I did make this delicious homemade granola...

I threw some peanut M&M's in for some colour! This will be absolutely delicious on ice cream, yogurt or cereal (without the M&M's of course..lol)!

What did you do this weekend? Was it a weekend of last attempts at enjoying summer? Or was it a weekend of relaxing and going with the flow?

I Ran. And boy did I Run!

I just got home. It's a beautiful sunny day out. All day at work I looked out the window in anticipation for my run.

I love running outside. It's refreshing and therapeutic. And today was the perfect day; not to hot, not to cold, and not a single cloud in the sky!

I went to the same trail as always, but this time I ran, and boy did I run... far!

I did 12 km (7.5 miles) in 1 hour and 15 minutes!

I know last time I did 10 km, but that additional 2 on felt like it took forever!

By the time I got home I was starving! So I whipped up a salad.

Marinated Chickpea Salad

1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
1/2 fresh green peas
2 thick slices of red onion, chopped
7 grape tomatoes, quartered
2 tbsp Kraft calorie wise balsamic dressing

1. Cook fresh peas in boiling water. They are ready when they float to the top.
2. Rinse cooked peas and can of chickpeas in cold water.
3. Add chopped onion and quartered tomatoes.
4. Drizzle with salad dressing.
5 Yum! Enjoy!

Now I am heading off to see a movie with Nick. We are going to see Final Destination 3-D! I will tell you what I think when I get back! Goodnight!

Oh it's a late one

Yes I am still up! It's 3:00am, and I have just, and I mean just finished adding my stuff to the new PDP shop and getting the blog train ready.

I am so excited about this Grand Opening, and have worked so hard this month....

Alright time to go to bed!

Today I was Disappointed

I was a little disappointed today to see that Tim Horton's has raised their coffee prices, again.... *sigh*

It now costs me $1.33 for a medium coffee every morning.

Maybe I should start using the Tim' Horton's coffee maker that's in my closest.... it's never been used.... or opened for that matter!

But there is something about the way Tim Horton's makes their coffee that makes me doubtful I will switch.

Do you prefer coffee from a coffee shop, or coffee made at home in your own brewer?

It's just me this Thursday

Yup just me. Amanda and Jax are not feeling well today, so I won't be going over for dinner, I can't really afford to get sick right now, I am super busy!

So what's for dinner?

And it's nothing fancy, so don't get to excited... it's really.... Manwich, from a ummm.... can!
I know, I know.... but I am serving it on a whole wheat pita bread, and I didn't use beef I used lean ground pork, and I even added a minced portabella mushroom to the meat. It blends in soooo well you can't even tell it's there! Plus I'm serving it with sweet potato fries, which I baked in the oven, from a real potato, not a package.

I was good on the veggie and fruit today, so I don't feel to bad about this dinner, plus Nick really likes it, sooo...

Finally got a chance to run outside! I went on Tuesday night. Ran about 10km (6.2 miles) on a trail that used to be a railroad track, so it was pretty straight and level. I did it in about 45 minutes, I'm not sure if that is good or bad....

How far do you run and how fast?

i do love food

I had  a pretty un-eventful weekend. I watched "I Love You Man" with Nick on Friday night (hilarious movie btw), we went out for my little sis's birthday on Saturday night, and then I worked like a dog on some new kits for the PDP Grand Opening on Sunday.

I really wanted to share that I have been trying a new diet lately. Not really a diet, more like a super healthy eating plan. I am trying to eat a ton of fruits and veggies, and let me tell you it's harder than you think!

I already don't eat any red meat, and I usually only have meat (chicken, fish or pork) for dinner. The thing that I am having the hard time with is trying to cut out sweets, because I LOVE sweets! This is why I look forward to dinner at Amanda's every Thursday, because I get to indulge in some delicious deserts. So in this plan I allow myself to have some sweets at the end of the night, after I have eaten a ton of veggies and fruit.

I guess this diet is suppose to be easier on the digestive tract, give you more energy, and help clear skin. I have been trying it out now for about 1 month, and have noticed that I do have some increased energy and my skins a little better. I will keep going at it, and see what happens, I'm sure the plan with evolve as I go.

So here's what I enjoyed today...

{1} Breakfast at 8:00am: Whole Grain Cluster Cherrios with Strawberries, Raspberries and BC Blueberries, and a Tim Horton's Large Double Double.
{2} Mid-Morning Snack at 11:00am: Fruit Salad with Oranges, Grapes, Strawberries, Raspberries and BC Blueberries. Water.
{3} Afternoon Snack at 12:30pm: Raw assorted peppers and crimini mushrooms. Half a toasted breakfast pita with hummus. Water
{4} Lunch at 2:30pm: Large Spinach and Arugula salad with cherry tomatoes and cheddar cheese topped with Sundried Tomato and Oregano dressing. Water.
{5} Dinner at 6:30pm: Roasted Vegetables: cauliflower, spinach, peppers, onions, zucchini and tomatoes. 1 1/2 bbq chicken thighs, 2 spoonfuls of whole grain rice, and acorn squash. Diet Coke.
{6} Dessert!: Apple Raspberry Crisp

I also had a banana in the car on the way home from the gym. I try to go to the gym everyday, so far I have been pretty successful at going 4 times a week.

Today I did 50 minutes on the elliptical. I cranked the incline up as far as it would go and had the tension around 8. I burned about 500 calories, stepped about 7000 times, and had an average heart rate of about 170.

I would have gone for a run outside if it didn't look like it was going to rain.. blah! There are some days I would rather exercise outside than in a gym (probably because I am cooped up in there all winter!). I love when it's nice and I can run outside on the trails.

Do you prefer to be in the gym or outside for your workouts?

Hanging with the Fam

Late post, I know.

Just got back from my sister's house. I go there every Thursday for dinner. This originally started when Jax was born, I would go over every Wednesday. Once I got her hooked on Grey's Anatomy, I started to go Thursday to watch it with her, and a whole year later we are still doing it.

We have some rules though: she makes dinner, I bring dessert!

Today's visit was sort-of bittersweet. Since my mom has moved back into town, I am giving back our cat. I unexpectedly inherited this cat (which was have had for almost 14 years) when my mom moved in with my grandparents at the beginning of June. Now that she is moving out, she can take the cat back.

Look at poor little Tia in this cage...

TiaShe was not happy. I was meeting my mom at Amanda's house, so I had to drive 40 minutes with her in the cage. The cried the WHOLE way, and didn't miss a beat. It was quite rhythmic... meow, meow, meow!! She was happy to see my mom though... which was good.

Dinner was delicious (as usual)... we had ravioli and sauteed spinach with mushrooms & pancetta...

Sauteed Spinach with Mushrooms For dessert, a little something that I often throw together...

Mud PieMud Pie
Finely crush 6 low-fat graham crackers, pour into the bottom of a bowl in an even layer. Prepare one package of chocolate pudding as directed on package (use 1% milk if you can). Spoon pudding into bowl covering graham crackers. Top off with Cool Whip and fresh fruit of your choice.

Yummy!

Of course I also hung out with the little man....

We had some crazy weather going on too! There were several tornado warnings for our area, one even touched down just outside or Toronto... scary!!!

Do any of you have family get-togethers on a weekly basis? This is something, that over the past year, I have really started to look forward to and really enjoy doing (even though I have to drive 40 min there and 40 min back!!).

Sometimes you fall off the horse....

... but then you have to get "write" back on!

And boy did I fall off the horse!! Who knew that a picture a day would be so hard, but life catches up to you fast, somethings start to take priority over others, and then bam!!... you fall off the horse.

So today ladies and gentlemen, I am attempting to revive this blog. I gave it a little makeover, and even some thought into what my "first" post should be. I decided that rather than having a photo-a-day blog, I will share my daily randomness with you (and it may or may not include photos!)

I'm still undecided whether or not I'm actually interesting enough to have a blog about me, but gosh darn it I'm gonna try, and in-time we will see.

One thing that seemed appropriate for my "first" post was something that I saw on Ali Edwards blog, which originated from the Simple Woman's Daybook. It's a little prompt that will help me journal this moment and inspire me to stick to it.

FOR TODAY ~ August 17, 2009
Outside my window... I can see little kids playing in the park.
I am thinking... I enjoyed my jog today.
I am thankful for... being able to afford my new home and car.
From the kitchen... Tuna casserole.
I am wearing... jeans and a green T.
I am creating... new kits for the launch of PDP.
I am going... to probably cave and have another brownie for dessert.
I am reading... (or trying to read) over 400 new posts in my Google reader.
I am hoping... that Nick like the tuna casserole I made for dinner.
I am hearing... nothing. I should probably turn the TV on for some much needed background noise.
Around the house... there is too much cat hair.
One of my favorite things today... this new website.
A few plans for the rest of the week: get stuff done at work, pick a new dessert to take to my sisters house, and vacuum on Sunday.

Here is picture I am sharing...

Hiking - August 14, 2009This picture was taken this past Friday. Nick took me hiking at a new spot where we quickly discovered that there are some great waterfalls in Ontario (he thinks the all the good ones are in BC!). Here's another, just for the sake of sharing...

Waterfall - August 14, 2009I do hope to keep this blog updated with my randomness, so make sure that you subscribe here.

Well, that must be all because I don't know what else to say... goodnight!

January 2009 Monthly Summary Layout

This is my January Monthly Summary Layout. It was inspired by Gina Marie Huff's Life 365 Quickpage Album.

The papers and embellishments are from my winter digital scrapbooking kit First Frost.

Weekly Summary: Week 5

Ohhh this is starting to get hard.......

I am afraid that I might end up starting a Project 52, but I am really really going to keep on trying. Like they say, it takes 30 days to form a pattern and 90 days to form a habit.... I think I have gotten the pattern of taking photos down, I just have to form it into a habit!

Onto the week....

Monday
I was at a cooking video shoot all day for work.... this is one of the recipes we made!
Tuesday
Ummm... yup didn't take a pic!

Wednesday
Today was the first day BF and I got to walk through our new condo.... here is my fabulous new kitchen. We officially move in on Feb 6th! WooHoo!

Thursday
Dinner at my sister's house as usually, and here is Jax smiling at the top of the stairs.

Friday
Boo.... no pic again

Saturday
Friends, BF and I went to see that new 3D Horror Movie. Don't we look funky in our 3D glasses? I must admit that they look more fashionable than the ones from years ago.... you know the one red eye and one blue eye? heheh

Sunday
Just choppin' up some vegetable for my Tikka Masala.... mmmmm!

Monday, January 26, 2009

Weekly Summary: Week 4

Oooh, what a week it has been....

Monday
Once again it was hockey night, and.... I forgot to take a picture!! Yes this will set the tone for the week.

Tuesday
Yup! Read it and weep! A speeding ticket. They finally caught me, just joking!

I was going 80km in a 50km...womp womp! The officer was nice though and gave me 69km in a 50km instead! I'm not so mad that I got the ticket, I am more mad that my insurance is now going to skyrocket..boooo!

Wednesday
Yum yes, I am running late!

I usually get up at 7:00am and am out the door at 7:30. The clock says 7:47 am, and I am still at home.... snapping this pic.

Thursday
At my sister's house for dinner, and to play with Jax. Look at those chubby cheeks.

My sister has really started to explore with her cooking and made a great stuffed cannelloni. Delish!

Friday
Woohoo a new computer! My computer started acting up on Monday, and for some reason would not open or save PNG files (weird I know). I tried all week to fine a solution, which included un-installing and re-installing Creative Suite 2 three times! Since my computer was 5 years old, and slower than molasses, I finally caved and bought a new one.

Look at it! Shiny and new, still has that new cardboard box smell!

Saturday
BF and I hung out at home... watched Mama's Boy.

I had ever heard of this movie (I didn't even know if was in theaters), but we rented it. It was pretty funny, and also predictable, but what do you expect from a movie about a 30 year old who still lives at home with his mom....

Sunday
I literally spent 8 hours transferring all my files over to the new computer... tiring!

But now she is up, running, and ready to pump out my newest kit "I Love You My Deer." Check the blog for it sometime next week!

That's concludes this edition of weekly round-up! Thanks for stopping by!

A Funny Email

You know those emails that you get from family and girlfriends where the subject line begins with a million FW: FW: FW:??

Well, I barely ever open those (sorry mom!!), I know that it is either:
(a) A chain letter, and if I don't send it to ten friend immediately I will meet my appending doom,
(b) A dirty joke, or possibly a half naked, buffed-up hunk,
(c) A warning about scams that are spreading across the country.

The subject of this email did catch my eye, and I opened it....

NINE WORDS WOMEN USE
  1. Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
  2. Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
  3. Nothing: This is the calm before the storm.  This means something, and you should be on your toes.  Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
  4. Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission.  Don't Do It!
  5. Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men.  A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing.  (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)
  6. That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man.  That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
  7. Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome'.  That will bring on a 'whatever').
  8. Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying F--- YOU!
  9. Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?'  For the woman's response, refer to # 3.
Could not be more funny or true!!!!! LMAO!!!

Weekly Summary: Week 3

Ok, so I have come to the decision that it will be easiest for me to post my week's worth of photo every Sunday night. My work and personal schedule is going to be pretty busy in the next coming months, so it will work the best for me to summarize each week.

Alright, now that, that is out of the way, let's get to my weekly summary....

Thursday
This is a quick shot I took while leaving to set up for a Wine & Food Show for work.

Friday
A shot of our display at the Wine & Food Show. It was such a long day, the show opened at 12:00pm, and we cooked all day until the show closed at 10:00pm. We then headed back to our hotel to sleep!!

Saturday
Another long day!! I was lucky enough to host a cooking show on the Food Network Cooking Stage, I was super excited. Here's a shot of me onstage...

Sunday
Often when I attend these food shows we are lucky enough to pick up some free stuff from other exhibitors, this time it was a TON of cheese. So thanks to the Dairy Farmer's of Ontario I have enough cheese to feed me (and an army) for the next two months!!

Anybody have a tried, tested, and true cheese recipe?? Feel free to share, with this much cheese I will be looking for some new inspiration!

Easy Jambalaya

Mmmm my dinner tonight... Easy Jambalaya.
